RE: EZ Pass transponder

In Illinois we have what is called an , Open Road Tollway system, that is if you have an I pass, you need not stop at the toll plaza, but you drive through at the posted speed, no gates. But with the newer I pass transponders, you have now way in knowing if it worked as you drive through. No beep or nothing. So it is important that your vehicle is registered with the state plate number, to cross check these plates with the registered owner if your transponder fail.

RE: OH NO!! 6 days in a CG w/o internet signal?

Who would ever think that not getting an internet signal while camping would be a big deal. I for one enjoy the internet, but it would not even enter into my mind when camping. We were in Alaska for 10 weeks, a few years ago, no internet, and we kept on guessing on how many E Mails would be on our computer when we returned home. There was a bunch, but we survived. When camping we want to get away from the daily grind, and enjoy the outdoors. To each his own.

RE: New Truck Decision

Planning what to buy in 4 to 5 years? A lot of things will change, even in the truck industry. AND dodge does offer 3500 series trucks without the dually setup.

RE: Tire Date Code

Is that not the 20th week in 85? or are we reading the codes wrong? 2085 If it was made in 92, would it not read 0292? I know they have changer the codes from years past, but a code of 1007 on your tire indicates the 10th week on 07, MFG. So if it has only 3 numbers, it was made prior to 2000. 4 numbers will appear after 12/31/99

RE: I let the wife drive home - pulling the fiver!

Th DW being raised on a farm, know all about stick shifts and pulling wagons with the tractors, SO she does her share of driving when we take extended trips. The short ones, 2 to 3 Hrs, I steer. But hooking up the fiver, that is a task I do, but now thinking it would not be a bad idea for her to do it. Never know. When we had out pop up, the DW had to drive the Suburban about 2000 miles home pulling the trailer, and getting it into and out of many campgrounds, this was due to an accident that left me in a full leg cast. LONG STORY.

RE: how many of you camp with children

Grandchildren, anywhere from 3 to 6. ages from 2 to 17. Campfires, Biking, Hiking, Fishing, crafts,( The DW always has some stored in the camper, and picks them up when they are on sale) Hop Scotch, Mother Ma I, etc, The kids really love it, and have been doing it for over 45 years. First our 6 boys, now the grand children, 11 of them. Really fun.

RE: How far this year.

Will only travel about 2000 miles this year with our fiver, all trips about 200 to 500 miles each. Still plan on fall camping, but these are also short 100 to 200 miles in length. Glad we went to Alaska in 2000.

RE: "Update" Dodge cummins clutch job

Side note on repairs, My 98.5 Ram Cummins started to have s starter problem, sometimes it would just click, click, then start. And then would go weeks without a problem. But prior to going on a long trip I decided it was time for replacement as the truck was approaching 100,000 miles, this problem seems to happen according to Dodge owners. Dealer wanted $750 to replace started, Did it with a friend for $200 and it Took about 1 hr to complete. Best to have a deep well 10 mm socket though for easy repair.

RE: From Pop Up to New Travel Trailer

Even though you have that new pop up, there are times when you would like to have that old rig back. We have a fiver now, but still miss our old pop up now and then, as we had used them for almost 20 years.

RE: 55 Gallon Water Drum

Look up sites that relate to the use of water barrels for saving rain water. I have see a few GREEN barrels that people have placed under there downspouts that collect this rain water. Garden centers may have a lead, I for one use one that my son gave me years ago from work. This is a metal drum, not plastic like the ones used today.

RE: Were to camp in Yelowstone.

Yellowstone starts to shut down some of there camping sites by mid September. That is, they start by limiting camping spots to certain camping areas as there winter season starts. This process allows a more orderly fashion in closing each remote site. So by mid September you should find enough sites, but be prepared to move to other spots as necessary.

RE: Springfield, Illinois area

Also visit the Lincoln memorial, and rub the nose. You will know when you see it. This is also the sight of his moselium, and contains history relating to his death. When we are down there we also camp at the state park.

RE: Renting Out RV??

Never in my wildest dreams would I rent or even let one of our friends use the class A. We own a fiver, but the same thing holds true. A slight OPPS could cost thousands to repair. When we owned a pop up years ago, we let the wifes brother use it for two weeks, it came back dirty, ETC, plus they never really thanked us for it's use. LESSON LEARNED.

RE: Ultra Low Sulpher Diesel

ULSD was mandated for all of California at least two years prior to the 07 law that effected the other states. Yo should have no problem finding this fuel across the US. But watch the pump stickers.

Camping in todays market.

With all types of government bodies seeking more MONEY, we in the camping community are finding our old and treasured camping locations CLOSED, or with limits on there uses. Example, Our regular STATE camping location, now charges more money, and is providing far less services than years past. We are lucky to see the grass cut in a timely manner, and forget about the rangers evening talks, ETC, as his position has been eliminated due to $$$. issues, The list is endless, washrooms closed, no toilet paper, TRAIL CLOSED, a tree from last months storm is blocking it, thus due to budget cuts, no body will remove it, or even cut a path through it. One park is only open Friday and Saturday, everyone out of there by 3PM Sunday. Some parks have just CLOSED,,, No money for staff. The list is endless, and with no real light in the tunnel. Ideas?

RE: My nightmare with Callen Campers

It would be really interesting to see if Callen's REALLY IS BUILDING UNITS, or just keeping partial completed units around, thus when a potential customer visits his shop they will see these units, and figure that everything is OK. But due to there money issues, they are just taking you order and cash with no intention of building it, due to there present financial situation. This ploy is used every day in the construction industry. BIG TALK, NO ACTION. You will be lucky to get your money back, but I hope you do.

RE: Dodge 2500 5th Wheel Hitch Placement?

Sometimes braces or other items are in your way when installing the hitch. Just try to have the fivers hitch pin close to the center of your rear axle in the tow haul mode. Being off an inch or two from center either way will make no difference.

RE: Out side shower

Mine never leaked, but over time it broke, seeing that the fiver is over 10 years old, thus nothing new will fit in the old compartment. No big deal though, as this feature was seldom used over the years.

RE: Smells like a scam--what do you think?

Interesting responses. Some are sure it is a SCAM, while others think this motor-home it is a good deal. I for one go to the SCAM side, I think he is phishing, in other word, just looking for an easy mark. if you start asking to many questions, they will move on to there next easier victim. Ken
